Who Is This 20-year Old Mönchengladbach Midfielder That Liverpool Are Chasing To Sign? Everything You Need To Know

With Liverpool capturing 22-year-old goalkeeper Loris Karius from Mainz, it is only a matter of time before they move on to their next big signature and this time against, Jurgen Klopp is hitting his country, Germany.

While Joel Matip is set to join Liverpool from Schalke, it could be time for another star to make it to Liverpool as the Reds line up a move for 20-year-old Mahmoud Dahoud. The Borussia Monchengladbach star has impressed this season and he is the future of Liverpool’s midfield, if the rumors are to be believed.

Dahoud primarily plays in the center of midfield and is known for his ability to pick out passes all around the park. He did play 38 games for the Bundesliga side this season and notched up five goals and eight assists for the team.

The 20-year-old is also great at tackling and he could bring that bite in the Liverpool midfield next season if he is paired alongside Emre Can in the heart of the team. Dahoud was born in Syria but moved to Germany with his parents and his footballing career started at Germania Reusrath and Fortuna Düsseldorf before he moved to Monchengladbach at the age of 14 in 2010.

Dahoud became the first ever Syrian born player to play in the Bundesliga when Lucien Favre gave him a go in the Europa League playoff win in 2014. His time at the club during the ex-manager’s spell was limited, but he started getting more chances under new manager Andre Schubert and he has not looked back.

The midfielder would be a great option to play along with Can, but he does have a problem or two. One is his lack of positional awareness which would affect Liverpool a lot. The other problem would be that Liverpool would end up with a ton of midfielders.

The club already have the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen and the aforementioned Emre Can for these roles. They have also signed Marko Grujic in the winter transfer window and he too will add a lot of competition in midfield.

This only means that Klopp has decided to let go of a few players and it could mean the end of Allen for sure and even Lucas Leiva maybe. Dahoud is a player who can do the offensive and defensive job that Klopp would want from his midfielders.

A duo of Dahoud and Can could be the perfect answer to Liverpool’s problems of last season and set the groundwork for a brilliant future.
