Although Tottenham will be disappointed to have finished below their North London rivals Arsenal, the fans will still be pleased that they managed to secure Champions League qualification at the expense of teams like Chelsea and Manchester United. However with Champions League qualification comes the burden of congested fixtures list, for which manager must strengthen his squad’s depth this summer in order to have a good go in Europe as well as in the domestic competitions. One of critical needs right now is a striker who can provide cover for the fatigued Harry Kane. For two years the English forward has carry the mantle of scoring goals for the club, which has left him with little in the tank, therefore Pochettino must make sure that he gets a striker who could cover for Kane upfront with the similar returns. However there will also be players who will need to be offloaded from the salary roaster in order to make space for the new incoming players.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Harry kane has been brilliant upfront for Tottenham since establishing himself in the Tottenham team in November 2014. Having played almost every match since then and contributing his fair share of goals, the English forward is in dire need of some rest and could suffer from burnout if not protected properly, therefore Pochettino has been tasked to bring in a reliable striker who could fill Kane’s shoes.

Mkhitaryan has been prolific for Dortmund this last season and has attracted the attention of many clubs across Europe, therefore getting him won’t be easy for Daniel Levy. If a deal does come through then, he would certainly add a lot of quality to the Spurs front line, although the Dortmund man is not a striker.

Viktor Wanyana

Eric Dier and Dembele did well for Tottenham last season in the heart of the midfield but getting the Southampton defensive midfielder could prove to be a tactically brilliant move. Wanyama and Dier partnership in the middle will provide that extra bit of protection for the back line. Both of them are strong in the air and don’t shy away from bullying strikers off the ball. The Kenyan knows the Spurs manager from his time managing the club in the South Coast and should seamlessly integrate into the team.

Outs

Ryan Mason

Fans were expecting Mason to be a rock in the centre of the field for the team by now but after a string of injuries, the English midfielder is a long way off from becoming a regular starter at this moment. With rumours growing about the imminent arrival of Viktor Wanyama, the fear is that Mason will fall further down the pecking order, which already has the likes of Dier, Dembele and Alli above him. With opportunities looking rare to come by, maybe it’s time for him to move to some other club in order to get more playing time.

Clinton NJie

Many Spurs were excited when the former Lyon striker arrived in London, however with no Premier League starts in 2015-2016 season, it’s become clear that the manager doesn’t rate him much. Even with Harry Kane suffering from fatigue, the Argentine Manager wasn’t fully convinced of giving the English striker a day off and starting with Njie upfront. The 22 year old missed a significant chunk of 2015/16 through injury last season but even when he was fit he was overlooked for a place in the team. With his stocks still pretty high in France, it might be the best time for Spurs to sell him, before a couple of more seasons reduce his value to the minimum.
