Two players Sheffield United must desperately sign before the transfer deadline

With just a few hours left for the English transfer window deadline, teams will be scrambling to get deals across the line. And EFL Championship outfit Sheffield United will be no different.

Chris Wilder’s side have had a poor start to the new campaign, having tasted two defeats in their first two league games, against Swansea City and Middlesbrough. The Blades have brought in five players this summer, signing defenders John Egan and Kean Bryan along with striker David McGoldrick to add to the loan signings of goalie Dean Henderson and highly-rated Liverpool starlet Ben Woodburn.

However, following the disappointing results in the first couple of games, the manager must strengthen his side further. And to that end, here we look at two players that the Blades should look to sign before the transfer deadline;

Lee Gregory (Millwall)

Signing another striker is a necessity for Sheffield United. And Millwall’s 29-year old striker Lee Gregory has been linked with a move to the Bramall Lane and the club needs to act swiftly to get their man.

Lee Gregory

The Englishman has been with Millwall since 2014 and has gone on to feature 188 times for the Lions, netting 62 goals in the process and setting up 21 more. Last season saw Gregory bag 10 goals in 43 Championship appearances, while he chalked up 4 assists as well, helping Millwall finish 8th in the table.

The 29-year old scored and assisted a goal each in the club’s season opener against Middlesbrough this past weekend.

An experienced campaigner with proven credentials, Gregory will also be available on the cheap given his contract is set to run out in a year. His goals and all-round play at the top could come in extremely handy for Sheffield United as they look to improve upon last season’s 10th spot finish.

Josh Windass (Rangers)

The Blades should look to make a late swoop for Rangers star Josh Windass before the deadline.

Josh Windass

Windass hasn’t had the best of starts to the new campaign under new Gers boss Steven Gerrard, failing to score in his five appearances. And with competition for a spot being intense, the player would be better off moving away from Rangers.

The 24-year-old had a spectacular season last time out, scoring 18 and setting up 8 more in 41 appearances across all competitions.

An attacking midfielder, who can play on either flank or through the middle, Windass could add an extra dimension to the Blades’ forward play that has looked timid and dour in the first two games. And to that, his ability to score goals in plenty could make him an excellent addition to the side.
