Two Deadline Day Signings That Brighton Should Complete

Brighton and Hove Albion, much like Huddersfield Town, are one of those clubs that people were surprised to see in the Premier League and thus expect very much to be part of the relegation battle.

Alright, they are, in fact, a part of the relegation battle but have shown enough so far this season under a decent coach in Chris Hughton to show that they can get enough points on the board in a closely matched bottom half of the table, and stay in this league.

To be sure though, they will need to add to their squad. With strikers Aleksandar Mitrovic and Moussa Dembele as well as Andrew Surman, Lamine Kone and Josh Vela having all been linked with the club this month, it seems like Brighton are ready to splash the cash.

Hughton for one, deserves to remain at the top level in my opinion and with that in mind he may look to push deals through for the following players:

Bobby Reid (Bristol City)

Reid is already on Brighton’s radar and they may well now be able to make their move with City having had a poor run in the league and now having been finally knocked out of the League Cup and the FA Cup. With those things in mind, the Bristol City board may want (or need) to cash in on some of their stars such as Joe Bryan and of course Reid, with the striker looking at least capable of having a good go at the Premier League.

Reid has 12 goals in 28 games in the Championship this season, which is a figure which sits favourably with the likes of Glenn Murray and Aleksandar Mitrovic who played in that league last season. So he may be worth chancing instead of the Newcastle forward.

Scott Arfield (Burnley)

Arfield is out of contract at the end of this season and doesn’t seem keen to sign a new deal at Burnley, leading to speculation that he is on his way out this week. Arfield is a target for Rangers among others and it’s unclear at this stage whether he fancies a return to Scotland or wants to prove that he is still very much a Premier League player.

If the latter is true, I would thoroughly encourage the Seagulls to throw in a bid over the next 48 hours and tempt him down to the south coast as he is a much-underrated player. With the exception of Dale Stephens perhaps, he is better than what they currently have.
