Two Deadline Day Deals That Bristol City Should Look To Complete

Lee Johnson has had a busy month as Bristol City attempt to maintain their promotion push. He has already brought Liam Walsh, Ryan Kent, and Lois Diony to Ashton Gate this month and he does not intend to let any of his players go. Despite this pledge, many of his players who are performing well have been linked with moves either to the Premier League or to their direct promotion rivals.

The link between strong central defender Aden Flint and Derby County is one that doesn’t seem to go away, although both parties are currently denying it. It would be a hammer blow to the Robins if they were to lose him but manager Lee Johnson will need to plan for exactly that eventuality. Here is who they might go for.

Adam Webster

Former Portsmouth and Aldershot centre-back Adam Webster appears to be a tailor-made replacement for Aden Flint should he make the move to the East Midlands, with reports suggesting that he should be available for £4million. Although he has struggled with injuries this season, he made his comeback for Ipswich just in time to be linked with a move away from the Tractor Boys.

Adam Webster is a ready-made replacement for Aden Flint should he decide to make a move and shouldn’t affect the balance of the Bristol City side very much at all, as they will gain in youth what they may be losing in leadership, with Webster being just 23 years old.

Danny Ward

With Frank Fielding still out injured, the need for Bristol City to bring in competition for Luke Steele becomes more pressing by the day. Liverpool’s third-choice Welsh keeper Danny Ward has made one appearance this season and has yet to establish himself at a time when the Liverpool goalkeeping situation is in flux.

Ward was on loan at Huddersfield last year when they were promoted from the Championship, and that is exactly the kind of experience that Lee Johnson would like to add to his squad. Although there is already an excellent fit goalkeeper at Bristol City in the form of Luke Steele, a player of Danny Ward’s calibre may add a layer of competition for places that the Robins do not currently possess.
