Two Championship Players Brighton Must Look To Sign In The Summer

With promotion to the Premier League all but secure now, Brighton can begin to plan for next season. However, with a limited budget and top existing talent hard to come by, they will need to be clever.

Staying away from players that the Premier League clubs are looking to offload may be a wise idea. Similarly, those being touted by European agents as ‘the next big thing’ are often a disaster too. So Brighton could do well to look for improvements a little closer to home.

Chris Hughton and Brighton are now masters of the Championship. Just failing in a promotion bid last season before surely gaining it this time, they are well aware of who the better players are in the league. They will also know well that some of those players are capable of plying their trade at a higher level.

So, with this in mind, here are two current Championship players who Brighton could look to poach this summer, to help their impending Premier League campaign.

Aaron Mooy

Huddersfield themselves have had a great year and Mooy is one of the major reasons why. A midfield powerhouse, the Australian has been colossal for the Yorkshire side in his season on loan from Manchester City.

Should Huddersfield fail to make it up via the play-offs, Mooy may look for Premier League football elsewhere and where better than Brighton? Having challenged them so closely this season, he will be reasonably familiar with the set-up there and will know how he can improve their team.

Knockaert has been excellent going forward and in Stockdale, Duffy, and Dunk, they have great defensive capabilities. Mooy, however, would bring the sort of midfield dynamism which would make them all but untouchable and he definitely looks a Premier League player.

Fernando Forestieri

Why not? The Sheffield Wednesday striker, 27, and from Argentina, would love the chance to prove himself at the top and is just the type of player Brighton will need. The south coast side have managed their promotion campaign really well without a prolific striker, with Glenn Murray being the main target man.

Murray’s willingness to get stuck in has allowed the likes of Knockaert to shine this season, though it’s more than a little debatable as to whether he’s good enough to do it at a higher level. With this in mind, Chris Hughton really needs to think about changing his no.9 and Forestieri could be just the man to help improve the squad sufficiently.
