19 Goals In 43 Games: Should Jose Bring This Super Talent Back To Stamford Bridge?

Share

Chelsea are having all sorts of problems when it comes to scoring goals this season. Their top goal scorer with almost a third of the season gone is Willian with 6 goals and Diego Costa only has four to his name, but the fallout between the striker and manager continues and it could well mean the end of Costa’s time at the club.

The other strikers at the club, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao have 2 and 1 goals respectively, certainly not enough to give Chelsea that attacking threat that they have so missed this season. Even the likes of Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have been exceptionally poor this season and the goals from them have dried up as well.

Sending Juan Cuadrado out on loan certainly wasn’t the wisest decision by Mourinho this season, maybe the Colombian could have had a hand to play for Chelsea and get them going but the Blues can do something in the transfer market with a player out on loan at a Premier League club.

Player of the year in the Championship!

Patrick Bamford

22-year-old Patrick Bamford was the man on fire last season while he was on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship. The Chelsea striker, like a lot of players at the club, was out on loan trying to prove that he can play regularly for a top club and score goals.

Well, he certainly did that in the Championship ending the season with 19 goals in 43 appearances for the club. It was expected the striker would get a few chances at Chelsea this season, but the youngster was shipped out on loan yet again, this time to Crystal Palace and he did score a hat-trick in their pre-season, but that is all that he has done so far for the Eagles this season.

Bamford hasn’t played as many games as Chelsea or he would have expected under Pardew and well, Palace are flying high so playing him regularly doesn’t make much sense at the moment. Bamford has made seven appearances for the Eagles in all competitions and hasn’t scored a goal yet for them.

The lack of goals and playing time will stagnate his growth, something that both Chelsea and Bamford would not like, but this is the current situation. Bamford was known for his running and finishing at Middlesbrough and that is something that has been missing at Chelsea.

The need for someone who can score goals from almost all angles and positions is the need for Chelsea and Bamford would be an excellent recall if Mourinho does bring the Englishman back to the club but knowing Mourinho, he would probably play Willian as a striker in the next game to get the goals.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, Bamford might just be a risk worth taking, a risk that might well save Mourinho’s job.
