Everton have started their season on a decent note in the Premier League under the tutelage of Marco Silva. The Toffees should be aiming to finish in the top six following their heavy investment in the summer. However, they could lose out a place in the top six due to a lack of quality finisher up front.
In Gylfi Sigurdsson, Bernard, Richarlison and Theo Walcott, Everton do have a really strong attacking unit that is capable of terrorising any Premier League defence but what this team lacks is a ruthless finisher up front, with Cenk Tosun proving to be a massive flop at Goodison Park.
Oumar Niasse remains out of favour under Marco Silva, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin isn’t yet ready to lead the team’s attack on a weekly basis.
That said, Marco Silva should definitely try to rectify the situation by bringing in some fresh faces in January. The Portuguese must prioritise signing a centre-forward and he should take a look at Red Bull Salzburg hit-man Moanes Dabour.
Moanes Dabour, 26, has hit the ground running this season for RB Salzburg, scoring nine league goals in 18 games so far. The Israeli forward has been equally impressive in the group stages of the Europa League, scoring six goals and helping his team reach the knockout stages.
Standing at 5ft 11in, Moanes Dabour is a speedy, agile and intelligent centre-forward. His primary attributes are his quickness, movement and the eye for goal. An instinctive striker by nature, the 26-year-old’s ability to lose his marker with subtle movement makes him a potent threat in the final third.
Another impressive aspect about him is his poaching instincts and awareness inside the box. Dabour has a knack for being at the right place at the right time to convert the chances. He is also good at link-up play and can play with his back facing the goal.
As threatening as Everton have looked in the final third this season, their lack of ruthlessness in front of the goal has come to light, especially in the Premier League defeats at the hands of Manchester United, Liverpool and most recently, Manchester City. To put things into perspective, Everton should make a move for Dabour in January to bolster their misfiring attack.
Having someone like Dabour in the squad would not only provide that much-needed threat inside the box but it would also give Silva the luxury of fielding Richarlison or Sigurdsson in a playmaking role.
Hence, Everton must go all out to sign the Israel international from RB Salzburg next month.
