Reports from the Mirror are suggesting that Burnley are keen on signing Che Adams from Championship outfit Birmingham City.
When compared to the position that Burnley were in at the end of December, they seem to have been reborn over the past few weeks. They have displayed great mettle to stand up for themselves and get themselves out of a sticky situation albeit temporarily.
They have won their last three league games, which have given 9 very valuable points that could go a long way in helping them come the end of the campaign. They haven’t been too good in the attack all campaign, with all their talented strikers missing the mark. Their defence too has been nothing short of horrendous at times, as they have conceded 43 goals already.
They are currently at 15th place and while that sounds good on paper, they are just 3 points away from 18th-placed Newcastle, which is a worrying thought. With a mixed bag of fixtures coming up as well, they will do well to get maximum points from some of the lower half teams.
Their inability to score goals is going to haunt them later on unless they take the initiative to do something about it in the winter transfer window. Despite having the likes of Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes available for selection, Burnley need to identify a striker that can be trusted to lead the attack on a regular basis and consistently score goals.
This is not an easy task in today’s market but according to the Mirror, Burnley have identified their man to be Birmingham City’s 22-year-old centre-forward Che Adams. He has been in excellent form this season in the Championship and has done well in front of the goal.
He has played in all 27 of Birmingham’s games this season, scoring 13 and setting up 4. He is a mobile striker who covers distances on the pitch. He works really hard off the ball and is an asset even from a defensive viewpoint.
He can be used as a target man in the box or he can hold up the play to bring others into action. The angles and timing of his runs are usually perfect, making him a threat anywhere in the opposition half.
His biggest asset is his ability to finish. He seems to have an inert understanding of where the goal is, irrespective of how much pressure he’s under. He always seems to be under control when the ball is coming towards him.
This type of player could go a long way in the Premier League and Burnley will be completing a shrewd piece of business if they do manage to pull this off.
