£125m buy-out Clause: Would This Barcelona Star Suit Arsenal Or Liverpool The Better?

Football like fantasy too, spreads its wings beyond imagination. Ecstasy, joy, exhilarating moments of action and youthful exuberance have been a part of the game since the very inception. Take for example the essence of scoring a hat trick in a football match. The joy, the jubilation, energy and dynamism give you the real pleasure to rub slats into the wounds of your opponents.

If you are contemplating what my idea is all about, let’s go a couple of days back in time: Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez scored an eight-minute hat-trick to help Barcelona to a 5-2 comeback win over Getafe on Sunday. Getafe made a blistering start as they lead 2-0 just inside fourteen minutes to send the Catalan side into their shell. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and as the great author Mark Twain had once said: “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog”.

Pedro albeit his blistering hat trick took his seasonal tally to 10 goals in 16 appearances. However, the  Spaniard has just started only 10 ten times in the league under Tata Martino and has played half of the side’s Champions League fixtures. As Lionel Messi comes back from his injury and with Alexis Sanchez and Neymar being in thunderous form, there is a shadow over Pedro’s game time on the pitch ahead of next year’s showcase World Cup in Brazil. It’s quite frustrating for someone with such potential and talent being made to wait on the bench and look for injuries or substitutions to make his presence felt.

However if the Spaniard does eventually want to leave the Catalans there would be no short of clubs vying for his services. According the report from Express, Liverpool and Arsenal are thought to be interested in the Spaniard and particularly the Reds Boss, Brendan Rodgers who has the need to add more dimension on his right flank and would pounce for any chance to sign the Spaniard. The Express report, quoted Pedro as saying:

“I am happy with Barcelona, but things have to be evaluated every season, When you play less you do not feel less important, but it is true that you notice playing fewer minutes and it is different.”

Although he went on to claim that his primary goal is to stay at Barca, it is clear that the winger is looking for regular game time.

Coming back to Arsenal, inspite of the fact that they have a plethora of midfielders to choose from, the lack of a  wide man like Jesus Navas of Manchester City other than Theo Walcott is indeed a worrying sign for a title challenging side. In tight affairs, you need players who can supply the ball from the wings and play in a more direct approach, Pedro suits the bill in the best possible manner.

Considering both Liverpool and Arsenal, I feel Pedro would more suit the Reds from Merseyside than the Gunners. He would be able to start each and every game, will have the freedom to express himself on the pitch, link up with Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge, only to make Liverpool’s attacking third a nightmare for the opposition defence. Though according to the above mentioned Express report claim Pedro is contracted with Barcelona until 2016. Also it is believed that his release clause stands at a whopping £125m, but the fiscal ramifications might significantly drop is a club does approach Barcelona for his services.
