Why Sheffield United should beat Bristol City to sign Josh Maja

According to a report in Bristol Post, Championship club Bristol City are interested in signing young Sunderland forward Josh Maja. The 19-year-old has had a good season with the Black Cats, scoring goals in abundance and proving to be a difference-maker in the team.

It is believed that the Robins sent their scouts to watch the game at the Stadium of Light. The Englishman has already scored 10 goals in 16 league appearances, epitomising his propensity in front of the goal.

However, there is one more club that should take interest in signing the teenager – Sheffield United. The Blades have made a solid start to their season and are firmly in the promotion picture as we enter the festive period.

They are currently fourth in the table, with 30 points from 17 games, just three behind league leaders Norwich City. Chris Wilder and his men would be aiming to continue their good start and be present in the mix come the business end of the season.

For that to happen, subtle improvements are still needed, especially in the forward line. Hence, they should keep close tabs on Sunderland forward Maja. Here’s why:

Sheffield United’s need for a sparky forward

It’s true that Billy Sharp is having a good season, and David McGoldrick and Leon Clarke are chipping in with the goals to help the team as much as they can. But there is a glaring thought which comes to the mind whenever we see Sheffield United play – lack of pace in the attack.

That means they still need someone who can provide the spark when the going gets tough. Furthermore, the quality of the squad needs to be enhanced sooner than later if the Blades are to challenge for Premier League promotion.

Hence, they should aim to sign Maja. The 19-year-old possesses the pace that can frighten any defence in the Championship. His performances this season has shown us that he is an able finisher when the chances arrive.

He is just an ideal fit for a team like Sheffield United, who can become a lethal prospect by the addition of this teenager.

Moreover, pipping a Championship rival to the signature of a young British talent would bode well for the Blades. It would help the team become more determined and make a hard push towards promotion.
