Why Bournemouth must beat Leicester to the signature of Billy Whitehouse

According to a report from the Leicester Mercury, Leicester City are interested in signing Tadcaster Albion winger Billy Whitehouse.

The 22-year-old joined Leeds United from Doncaster Rovers in 2016 but he was released after just one year at the club. He made only one appearance in the shock defeat to Sutton United under the management of Garry Monk.

Since then, Billy Whitehouse has had a couple of failed moves down in the non-league football. However, he has managed to revive his career with Tadcaster Albion of the Northern Premier League, having joined the club in January.

Whitehouse, 22, has scored five goals and a remarkable 10 assists in just 18 games so far this season. His form has established him become once again, with Leicester City keeping tabs on him.

Bournemouth must enter the race for the 22-year-old’s signature. The Cherries have enjoyed a wonderful start to the new campaign and find themselves just four points off the top-four places. The sea-coast side has played an exciting brand of football this season, with the likes of Callum Wilson, David Brooks, Ryan Fraser, Joshua King and Junior Stanislas combining with deadly effect.

But the player that has stood out so far for the Cherries is David Brooks. Signed from Sheffield United this summer, the 21-year-old has adapted to the Premier League like a duck to water. Brooks has been in sensational form of late and has already bagged three goals in 10 league appearances this term.

Massive credit to Eddie Howe for building a side around the young talents and making Bournemouth play an exciting brand of football in the Premier League. And just how Brooks has gelled in well with the squad, Howe must take a punt on former Leeds United man, Billy Whitehouse.

Predominantly a right winger, Whitehouse can play on either flank and in the No.10 role as well. He is quick, skilful, pacy and athletic with an excellent work ethic and a desire to compete until the blow of the final whistle. The 22-year-old has a good technique and often makes runs behind the defenders. Truly, the spell in the non-league has helped Whitehouse develop as a player.

Bournemouth are well-stocked in the wide department, with David Brooks, Ryan Fraser, Junior Stanislas and Jordan Ibe all being deployed on the wings by Howe. But if Bournemouth are looking to challenge for a place in Europe, they need to increase the squad depth and that’s where Whitehouse would become a smart acquisition.

At 22, Whitehouse has a full career ahead of him. He is a player filled with potential and to unlock it in near future, Howe could just be the right manager for him.
