Ronaldo inspired Real Madrid to a victory in a nine-goal thriller by netting four past Girona. They won the game 6-3, with Ronaldo, Vazquez and Gareth Bale getting on the score sheet. Cristhian Stuani scored twice but that was far from enough to help his side to three points. Even before his very first goal, Ronaldo tested Bono with an excellent free-kick. Vazquez too, didn’t quite find an accurate finish and was denied by Girona’s gloveman.
Benzema played his hand in a number of layoffs and constantly tested the Girona defence. Madrid’s high press was opened up by some quality long balls and physicality in midfield. Despite Juanpe finding the target, Ronaldo and co. had the last laugh. Meanwhile, the hat-trick was the Portuguese legend’s 50th one of his career.
Came off his lines confidently, stopped a few shots brilliantly but failed to organise his defence.
Failed to track Stuani, let players run past him and gave away fouls. Going forward, he was a beast, who surely provided a driving edge.
Won most of the headers and cleared his lines but made positional errors and often closed down way too much, which eventually left him on his heels.
He stood up to the task, marked Portu and tackled sharply. Varane was a calm figure at the back.
A typical Marcelo performance. Defended high up the pitch, won the ball back, attacked with flair and linked up with Benzema and Ronaldo.
Besides Ronaldo, Asensio’s movement was spectacular. He surged forward, looked lively and crossed the ball well. He found spaces between defenders time and time again and almost curled a gorgeous free-kick into the goal.
Kovacic held the play, sat back, sprayed passes around and complemented Kroos in midfield. Played a fine hand while pressing.
Kroos led the attack and started it more often than anyone else. He directed the play, spread the attack and used his pinpoint vision to good effect. He split the defence many a time. Defensively, he was alright.
He scored a well-taken goal, interchanged one-twos with Benzema and dribbled past players with ease. Continued his bright form and looked at his destructive best.
Set up an array of through balls for Vazquez and Ronaldo, and held the ball up well. More or less, Benzema played a vital role in four of the goals.
Having scored less than 10 goals in the first half of the season, he now has a stunning 17 goals in his last eight games. Ronaldo was absolutely lethal, whenever on the ball. His finishing, composure and dribbling were all top class. Off the ball, his movement was world-class. For sure, Ronaldo outfoxed the opponents again.
