Wood And Vokes To Start – Strongest 4-4-1-1 Burnley Line-Up To Face Manchester City

Predicted Burnley Line-up To Face Manchester City In The Premier League

Burnley will take on high-flying league leaders Manchester City in gameweek 9 of the Premier League, at the Etihad stadium, on Saturday.

The Clarets have had a fantastic start to the season and currently occupy 7th place in the league table, with 13 points from 8 games. Their away form has been remarkable unlike last season and they are quite a force at home as well.

Sean Dyche’s side come into the game on the back of a 1-1 stalemate with 10-man West Ham and will be looking to continue their good form as they face City, who are looking simply unstoppable in the league so far.

Team News

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton is sidelined with a shoulder injury, while John Walters is missing with a knee problem. Deadline day arrival Nahki Wells is yet to recover from his ankle problem, while Dean Marney looks major doubt too.

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Manager: Sean Dyche

Nick Pope (GK)

With Heaton sidelined, Pope has done very well, with his best game coming against Liverpool. Should keep his place between the sticks on Saturday.

Matthew Lowton (RB)

The 28-year old right-back is one of the most consistent performers of the team. He will have his task cut out against a dangerous City attack.

Matthew Lowton

James Tarkowski (CB)

Tarkowski has been a rock at the back for Burnley this season. The centre-back has to be vigilant on Saturday to keep City’s free-flowing attackers at bay.

Ben Mee (CB)

Another solid performer in the backline for the Clarets, Mee has enjoyed a stellar partnership with Tarkowski so far. The duo is certain to start at Etihad.

Stephen Ward (LB)

The Republic of Ireland international should continue to feature at left-back. He could be in for a long afternoon against Leroy Sane.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (RW)

The Ireland international has started the new season strongly with some very encouraging displays on the right flank. Came on as a sub against West Ham last week but should start against City.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson

Jack Cork (CM)

Cork has had a great impact since his arrival last summer from Swansea. A tenacious midfielder, Cork will play a bigger role in nullifying City’s attacks and linking the play with his forwards.

Steven Defour (CM)

The former Porto midfielder has worked his way back into the team this season, after an underwhelming season last time around. He will add the much-needed steel in the midfield.

Robbie Brady (LW)

The former Norwich winger is an industrious player, capable of producing magical moments with his sweet left-foot. He will play a vital role on the left flank against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Chris Wood

Sam Vokes (SS)

The Welshman will look to link up with in-form striker Chris Wood. Voakes will offer aerial threat and physicality to Burnley. After netting twice against Chelsea on the opening day, he would love to repeat something of the same against City.

Chris Wood (ST)

The club-record signing Chris Wood has looked terrific for Dyche’s Burnley. Last weekend, his header five minutes from time rescued a point for the Clarets against West Ham. A sure starter.
