Why Tottenham should listen to their legend to sign Hakim Ziyech
According to a report in Metro, former Tottenham striker Rafael van der Vaart has told the club chairman Daniel Levy to sign Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech as soon as possible.
The Morocco international was linked with a move away from the Dutch champions with several clubs around Europe interested. However, he managed to stay on. (h/t Metro)
After a stupendous season last time out, where he scored 21 goals and supplied 24 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions, Ziyech has begun this campaign well with six goals and nine assists in 18 games.
There is no doubt that he is one of the hottest properties around Europe. However, he signed a new deal with Ajax back in August that will keep him at Amsterdam till the summer of 2022.
But here’s why Spurs should spend the money required to sign Ziyech sooner rather than later:
Ziyech would add more quality in the final third
Hakim Ziyech is a quality forward line player, who prefers to operate on the right-wing but is not bad playing on the other side or as an attacking midfielder.
His record at Ajax speaks for itself. Furthermore, his performance levels continue improving at a rapid rate, meaning that he is closing in on an elite status in world football.
In terms of his attributes, the Morocco international has good pace to trouble the opposition defenders. He is a fantastic dribbler of the ball and can pick out a key pass in the final third with utmost ease. Ziyech is also a graceful finisher of chances in and around the opposition box.
If Tottenham pay heed to van der Vaart’s suggestion and sign Ziyech, they would have a player who adds creativity and guile to their forward line, something which is associated with Christian Eriksen, whose future at the club is close to nothing. (h/t Football London)
