Why Splashing £80m On Gareth Bale Does Not Make The Right Sense For Tottenham At This Point

Tottenham Hotspur may have found a way back to winning ways but it is quite clear that Mauricio Pochettino will struggle to keep up the quality of his side’s performances against clubs that are constantly improving their arsenal in the transfer market.

Pochettino decided not to spend on a first-team star in January and has stuck with the options he had in midfield and in the attack. But the lack of consistency from his star players and the quality in the ranks of sides around them have pushed them to 6th place in the points table. They have a decent fight on their hands to even achieve a top-4 finish but Pochettino is already planning for the future.

Spurs do have enough quality to repeat their last season finish but the Argentine manager now wants to take it a step further next season and wants to sign one of the most exciting players in world football at the moment, Gareth Bale.

The Welsh international announced himself to Europe during his six-year stint at the White Hart Lane, where he turned into a superstar winger from an exciting left-back. He moved to Real Madrid in a then record £85m deal and has won numerous trophies and accolades, in his time in Spain.

However, reports from Spanish news outfit Dario Gol now claim that the Real Madrid president is fed up with his injury history and has slapped a price tag of around £80m for his services, at the end of the current season.

The same publication claims that Spurs are interested in meeting the value and bringing him back to London but is signing Bale the right direction for Spurs to go in?

Having won three UCL and UEFA Super Cup trophies and the La Liga trophy with Real Madrid, Bale is one of the most impressive wingers in Europe and has 56 goals in 106 La Liga appearances to date. He has 26 goals in 68 international appearances for Wales and is best known for his speed and acceleration, along with strength and his determination in the final third.

With a gifted technique and even better understanding of the game, Bale is a nightmare, to even the best defenders in Europe and will easily take Spurs’ attack a level up the ranks. His previous experience in England will also come in handy, but there are a few issues with his signature.

The biggest one being his injury history. He has already missed 69 days of action this season with hamstring and calf problems, that has seen him miss 8 games and make just 4 league starts so far. He has 3 goals and 3 assists in just 6 starts in all competitions, which shows his quality but at 28, he is supposed to be in his prime, playing each and every game for his club.

Instead, Bale is now the kind of a player whose playing time needs to be regulated, to get the best out of him and Spurs are just not in a position to do that. To top it off, his market value and the fact that Pochettino prefers younger talent, only makes the Welshman a panic buy for the London club. Forget it Pochettino! Bale is not your man.
