Why Signing Varane And Lindelof Can Make Manchester United’s The Best Defense In Europe

After a hard fought season, Manchester United managed to step into the Champions League on the final day of their campaign. This will now help them entice their top transfer targets to the club, one of them being Swedish defender Victor Lindelof.

Certain reports suggest that the Red Devils have all but completed the signing of the SL Benfica star and that his signing will be announced in the coming days. But that has not stopped Mourinho from scouting Real Madrid star Raphael Varane for a move this summer.

The likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones may find first team chances hard to come by next season and Eric Baily, who had a decent season at the back, is also expected to be pushed on to the bench if Mourinho spends on Varane as well. But will that make them the best defence in England?

Given the fact that Mourinho’s side were one of the best defences in the recent Premier League season, the addition of Varane and Lindelof will make Manchester United one of the strongest defences in Europe!

Both players are the first choice defenders for club and country and are experienced at the highest level at a young age. French star Varane is still 24 but is easily one of the best players in his position in Europe. Lindelof is not too far behind, putting in some solid performances to take his Benfica side to the Portuguese domestic league title.

Incidentally, both players are strong in the air and comfortable with the ball at their feet. Varane is adventurous and loves to take a stroll into the opposition half while Lindelof loves to sit back and read the game to strike at the right moment.

Both players complement each other and at their age, will cement their place in the first team for years to come. Bailly could be dropped to the bench or could compete with Lindelof to start alongside Varane. This competition will also put them on their toes and will get the best out of the players as United would be competing in all four competitions next season.

One of Smalling or Jones might have to be sold and the other could act as the back, and if this is the CB situation at Old Trafford next season, they will not have to spend on the same for at least half a decade.

Jose Mourinho seems to be planning for the future, with most of his new signings being under the age of 25. Varane and Lindelof will mingle well with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, and could help establish one of the strongest teams, not just in England but also in Europe.
