Why Paul Clement Could Do The Right Thing For Swans By Signing This Bargain Defender From Czech Republic

Should Swansea City Sign Slavia Prague Full-Back Jan Boril In January?

Bottom-placed Swansea City are not in the best of situations right now. They are struggling to get things going in the Premier League and have managed to amass only a meagre 9 points in 15 games. Although Crystal Palace were gracing the bottom spot until now, they have shown signs of improvement ever since Roy Hodgson took charge and have even managed to climb out of relegation danger for now. However, that has not worked in favour of Paul Clement’s men since being pushed down to the bottom instead.

The prospect of relegation does seem scary, especially at a time when clubs are sacking managers left, right and centre. In fact, it won’t be surprising if Clement is the one to leave next but the upcoming January window could provide some scope for him to bring in some new faces to strengthen their chances of survival. There are several areas that need to be solidified at the club but the manager is understood to be keen on a move for Jan Boril.

A full-back for Slavia Prague, Boril came close to joining Galatasaray over the summer but the move fell through at the last minute. He has been with his current club since 2016 and is yet to venture out of his country to ply his trade. However, he has truly flourished at Prague and has cemented himself as one of their most important players.

In fact, the player put up some noteworthy performances in the Europa League, even though his club failed to advance further. His success at the club has caught Clement’s eye but it remains to be seen if the manager can tempt him to leave Prague and move to the Premier League.

Jan Boril

It will be a big decision for a player who is yet to venture out of his home country. That said, Swansea can lure him with the prospect of him receiving greater international recognition. Although he is a natural right-back, Boril can also play on the left. His versatility would be an interesting prospect for Clement, who has often struggled with his players at the back. Thus, he does seem like a worthy target for Swansea in January.

He can certainly bring about some much-needed stability and consistency at the back. Prague might be unwilling to let one of their prized players leave the club but they could be tempted with some money. Also, they are unlikely to charge a hefty amount, hence making it seem like a bargain deal.

Clement has had quite a lot on his plate, having to deal with Martin Olsson’s absence earlier this season. Right now, Angel Rangel is his only recognised option to provide competition to his current first-choice right-back, Kyle Naughton. There is a void at the back for Swansea and Boril does seem like a bargain buy who could help their defence.
