Liverpool beating off competition for this 18-year-old Wolves prospect would be good for future

Why Owen Otasowie would be a smart signing for Liverpool

According to The Sun, Liverpool are tracking Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Owen Otasowie, who qualifies for three different countries.

Otasowie, 18, has garnered attention from several other European giants after his performances for the Wolves U23 squad. He has played just 4 matches for the team and has attracted many eyes.

Liverpool are currently on top of the Premier League with their stellar performances. After winning the Champions League last season, Jurgen Klopp’s men would be longing to add the league title to their trophy cabinet as well.

Klopp has helped Liverpool regain top form since his arrival at Anfield. This season, they have been prolific up front with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino as the first-choice forwards. They have been scoring goals consistently and have outshone the rest of the Premier League teams.

Liverpool’s only concern at the moment, despite not losing a single match in the league this term, would be their defensive situation. Despite having star defender Virgil Van Dijk to guard them at the back, they have managed to register just two clean sheets.

Joel Matip has been out of the team for quite some time with an injury to his knee. Dejan Lovern was pushed to the bench after Matip’s arrival. But an injury to the Cameroonian has benefited him with game time. At the moment, he has been partnering Van Dijk but has not been at his best.

Another defender in their ranks, Joe Gomez has also been limited with game time. His injury forced him to pull out of England’s international fixtures. Injuries have become a barrier for him. He has not been prolific like the way he was when he first broke into the senior team.

With a series of troubles to their centre-backs, Liverpool can think of bringing Owen Otasowie to Anfield.

Though it is obvious that he would not find his way to the senior team easily, the 18-year-old can look to start a career with Liverpool’s youth and reserve teams.

The highly-rated centre-back would be able to convince the manager if he steps in the right direction and therefore, he would be able to find himself as a back-up for the first-team members.

Verdict

Liverpool must manage to beat off completion from teams like Schalke, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain who are also interested in the teenager.

If Liverpool succeed in luring him to Anfield, they can see him as a future prospect, given his potential. With other clubs also vying for his signature, it is proof that he has got what it takes to succeed at the top level.
