According to a report from the Sun (h/t Nottingham Post), Crystal Palace are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash.
A Nottingham Forest academy graduate to rise through the ranks, Matty Cash, 22, has been a vital cog in the club’s upturn in form. Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi converted him from an energetic midfielder to a solid right-back, and the move has worked wonders.
With two goals and two assists to his name this season, Cash has been a revelation in his new role, catching the attention of Everton and Southampton as well. (h/t Nottingham Post)
The report adds that the Nottingham Forest man is a £12m target for Everton (h/t Nottingham Post) but Crystal Palace must do everything in their powers to sign Cash in January.
Crystal Palace failed to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer after the right-back joined Manchester United in the summer. Wan-Bissaka was outstanding last year for Palace and is considered one of the best defensive right-backs in the Premier League. In fact, he has seamlessly slotted into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and been one of their best players this season.
Wan-Bissaka’s departure has left a huge void in the Eagles squad, with Roy Hodgson starting the season with Joel Ward. While Ward has performed well, he was forced off with a groin injury against Chelsea before the international break and it remains to be seen until when he’ll be out.
The former Portsmouth man’s injury has exposed some awful summer work in the transfer market by Palace, leaving Hodgson to now rely upon the versatile Martin Kelly after the international break. Thus, the Eagles’ next move in the transfer market should be replacing Wan-Bissaka and Matty Cash would be a good fit at Selhurst Park.
Able to play in a variety of positions, Cash has been fantastic for Forest since being turned into a right-back by manager Sabri Lamouchi. The 22-year-old has scored two goals and registered as many assists in 14 Championship appearances this season, while also recording an impressive 2.8 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game. Offensively, the Forest star made 0.8 key passes and completed 0.9 dribbles per game. One aspect Cash will need to improve is his passing, which currently has a 70.2% success rate. [Courtesy: WhoScored.com]
Certainly, Cash appears to be an exciting player, having impressed so far this season for Forest. Bringing him to south London would be a great move from Palace as he appears to be a real talent who has the potential to step up to the top-flight.
