Why Manchester United’s Long Standing Transfer Saga Will End By This Deadline day?

Share

One of the biggest peeves that many football supporters have is the transfer window staying open and the league starting, the Premier League has already had a couple of matches for each club. What people actually want is the teams being sorted before the first game of the season and to avoid a situation that is currently unfolding at Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal

The Red Devils’ best player from last season, David de Gea does not seem to be in Louis van Gaal’s plans since the Spanish goalkeeper wants to join Real Madrid but the Madrid club and United cannot reach an agreement about the transfer. The British club have dropped De Gea for now and are playing with new signing Sergio Romero in goal. The Spanish number one has just a year left in his contract and United are willing to let him see it out and move on a free to Real Madrid next season but in reality this would only harm the player and the club in the long term.

Why does De Gea want to go?

Selling De Gea would bring United a pretty decent sum of money, granted it won’t be as large as when De Gea was on a longer contract but something is better than nothing in this day and age of business in the game of football. De Gea wants to go to Madrid, not just because he is homesick, but he wants to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Manchester United are a pretty big fish, but they seem to be in a constant state of transition, first under Moyes and now under Louis van Gaal, there seems to be no end to the work being done at the club. It is a similar case at Real Madrid though, who are known to sack managers faster than any other club in the world, new manager Rafa Benitez has his work cut out for him as he tries to bring the glory days back for Madrid.

De Gea would be a great replacement for Iker Casillas, a Real Madrid legend and he would also have a better chance of winning a trophy or two at the Spanish giants rather than at Manchester United. Spain has, for the majority of the last 15 years, been a two-horse race between Madrid and Barcelona, of course there have been a few great stories such as Atletico Madrid and Valencia but in reality it is either Real Madrid or Barcelona who should come out on top of the league once again.

The Copa del Rey and the Champions League are also a couple of trophies which Madrid always target and with Rafa in charge, we know that the cup competitions is something he would be very good at. Rafa also took Valencia to two La Liga titles in the 2000’s, on a meagre budget and that would play in his hands. De Gea might end up waiting a year to move to his dream club, but he should leave United to win more titles, isn’t that what every top footballer wants to do?
