Forget it Klopp – Liverpool would be better off dodging this outstanding young PL bullet

Liverpool opinion: Klopp must avoid signing Ben Chilwell

Adding Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson Becker and of course, the incredible Mohamed Salah among others has proven to be exactly what Liverpool needed this season. All three stars have played an incredible part, with Fabinho, Andrew Robertson and Trent-Alexander Arnold playing a part too.

The team that Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal may not be perfect, but it is their best chance at a title since Luis Suarez spearheaded the Liverpool front-line. But while the Reds have a very strong side to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League, it’s not without its faults.

Their back-up for Alisson Becker is Simon Mignolet and they have no back-ups for either full-back.

That has caused a few issues this season, with James Milner and even Jordan Henderson being used there, which weakened their back-line for more than a few weeks.

That is probably why Calciomercato has revealed that Liverpool have joined the race for Ben Chilwell. The young Leicester City man has been a revelation this season, ruling the Foxes’ left-hand side brilliantly.

Full of energy, composed on the ball and very athletic, the 21-year-old has everything at his disposal to become a world-class full-back.

Moreover, his consistent performances this season have attracted Manchester City (ESPN), as they look to replace Benjamin Mendy and his injury issues. But for Liverpool, it’s a move they do not need to make.

While there is no doubting the 21-year-old’s talent, Liverpool already have a lung-bursting left-back in Andrew Robertson. What Chilwell has done this season, the Scottish international did it last season, finishing the season on a high with an appearance in the Champions League final.

This season, Robertson has dominated the team-sheet with a 94% attendance record in the Premier League. It further emphasises why Liverpool really don’t need to make a move for Chilwell, but what the club does need is a back-up left-back.

At the moment, Jurgen Klopp has only Alberto Moreno as back-up. But the Spaniard has only made five appearances all season, which is something that Chilwell should never do.

However, Moreno is out of contract at the end of the current season and it leaves Liverpool with just two full-backs at their disposal.

Conclusion

Liverpool don’t really need Ben Chilwell and the Leicester City man would be wasted playing second fiddle to Andrew Robertson. What they need is someone who is willing to play second fiddle and yet be talented enough to step up when Robertson does get injured or suspended.
