Why Hakan Calhanoglu would be an excellent signing for Arsenal
Calhanoglu, 25, has been a regular in the Milan side, starting 18 games for the club but the Gunners believe a loan deal can be done this month, according to the report.
The Turkish international, who arrived in Italy from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017, has scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist this season. However, he hasn’t been on top of his game this term, with the Rossoneri lying 10th in the table.
And the report claims that Hakan Calhanoglu could be on his way out of San Siro as the Italian outfit are ready to offload the midfielder with a view to remould their squad after a disappointing start to the season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal too, have not had the best of starts to the season and their poor performance has cost Unai Emery his job. But their fortunes look to have turned under new manager Mikel Arteta with the side starting the New Year on a high note.
The Gunners have impressed without a defeat in their last three games, especially the defensive unit with the likes of David Luiz, Sokratis and Sead Kolasinac stepping up in recent weeks. Their attackers have also improved after a quiet first half of the season.
However, with the Spaniard boss confirming Arsenal are working to bring in reinforcements this month, he should prioritize strengthening the midfield area. And Calhanoglu would be a perfect addition to the squad.
A left-winger by trade, Calhanoglu is capable of playing in the midfield too. He is one of the most creative players and can make dangerous runs with the ball. He is excellent in breaking open tightly-locked defences and could be the extra-option along Mesut Ozil to construct the game for the Gunners.
The 25-year-old’s ability to find the back of the net from a long-distance makes him an exciting player. And this quality of his could be useful for the Gunners, who have failed to score a healthy number of goals in the league.
A set-piece expert, Calhanoglu can easily slot into Arteta’s Arsenal side and has all the attributes to spring life into their attack. Not to forget, he has got a good vision to create opportunities in the final third.
The Turkish international has also played 47 matches for his country and his experience could prove to be vital for the Emirates outfit. In 47 games for Turkey, he has scored 10 goals and this adds to his credibility.
The video below shows a glimpse of his style of play and what he could bring to the Emirates if a deal goes through.

- Why Ake’s arrival would be a major boost for Arsenal’s defence
- Why Hakim Ziyech would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal
With reports suggesting that Calhanoglu is keen to move on, the Gunners must make the best use of this chance to snap him up.
In doing so, they would significantly bolster the squad and with games coming thick and fast Calhanoglu can be started regularly as he would a different dimension to their game.
