Why Daniel Levy Splashing €50m On This German Talent Would Make Tottenham As Strong Title Contenders

Tottenham Should Sign Timo Werner From RB Leipzig And Here’s Why

Tottenham have been linked with a move to sign rising German superstar Timo Werner, who is currently enjoying a stunning run with RB Leipzig. Interestingly, Spurs were interested in Werner back in 2015 when he was at Stuttgart but the player eventually joined RB Leipzig. At that time, he was being targeted as part of a new-look strike force, as both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado looked set for White Hart Lane exit. While the duo did leave, Werner remained with Stuttgart until the following summer when he made the switch to RB Leipzig.

The former Stuttgart winger has evolved into one of the most complete goalscorers in the game after spending just over a year at RB Leipzig, outscoring every other German player, with 21 Bundesliga goals last season, following which he earned the Golden Boot, as Joachim Low’s Germany side triumphed at the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that some of the best clubs in the world are being linked with signing the €50m rated Werner. He is a player who, at the age of just 21, is already being tipped as Germany’s next great centre-forward – which does make him an ideal candidate for what Spurs are seeking.

Looking at the way he plays, it is quite evident that Werner is exactly the kind of player Tottenham need to add to their forward line, in order to ease the pressure on Harry Kane in the process. After a lot of controversy surrounding Pep Guardiola’s infamous ‘Harry Kane team’ comment, there will be pressure on the club to minimise their dependence on the prolific striker.

Hence, Tottenham are still on the lookout for an alternative to Harry Kane, even though they signed Fernando Llorente from Swansea City in the summer. To be fair, the player is 32 years of age and is hardly a long-term solution to Pochettino’s need to find a deputy for Kane.

Werner is essentially a speedy attacker and can play pretty much anywhere across the front line. His versatiliy would surely appeal to Pochettino.

Whatever happens until January, Spurs must ensure that they sign a player like Werner to add a nice layer of depth to the attack. The current season will be extremely long and extremely demanding – both physically and mentally. With this in mind, Werner would be an excellent addition to the Tottenham squad.
