Why This 20-year Old Celtic Defender Would Be Great Signing For Manchester United Over Moussa Dembele

Should Manchester United Sign Celtic Duo Moussa Dembele And Kieran Tierney?

Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney have been attracting a lot of interest from a host of European clubs after their performances in the Scottish Premiership. Celtic reportedly value the duo at more than £50m in the current market.

One of the clubs who have shown a more particular interest in both players have been Manchester United. The Red Devils were one of the 17 English clubs who sent scouts out to watch the Celtic duo play against Bayern in the Champions League and are now believed to be in pole position to get a deal in place for the both of them, according to reports.

Talent aside, are these two Celtic FC players good enough to sign for the Red Devils? Let’s take a look.

Moussa Dembele – Necessity or Luxury?

Moussa Dembele, who joined the Scottish club from Fulham in 2016 scored 32 goals in his first season with the Bhoys. The French striker was lethal under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers last season as he helped Celtic finish their domestic season without a single defeat. The 21-year-old was heavily linked with Chelsea during the summer but remained at Celtic Park despite interest from the Blues.

It’s quite evident that the Frenchman is a great talent but his achievements have come in the Scottish Premiership, a league which is only as good as the EFL Championship or probably lesser. Celtic have always failed in the Champions League but Dembele has always been a bright spot for them. Dembele has plenty of time to develop and establish himself but right now he is just not Manchester United material, as he may find the move to United too big to handle (remember Wilfried Zaha, anyone?).

However, Kieran Tierney could be a worthy addition to the Manchester United squad. Jose Mourinho is yet to find a proper left-back for the first team, with Luke Shaw struggling with injuries and bad form.

Tierney, who made his senior debut at the age of 17, already has four seasons under his belt at Celtic park, and also made his Scotland debut last year. The young left-back recently signed a new six-year contract with the club, which will only help Celtic in the transfer negotiations.

The youngster was delighted with the new contract and thanked Brendan Rodgers for keeping faith in him.

Tierney said: “I still can’t believe it. It’s amazing. The manager has trusted me since day one. I was very young when he came in and I’d only played one season in the first team.”

Manchester United are targeting two really talented footballers but at the moment Kieran Tierney is the only one good enough to represent the Red Devils.
