Crystal Palace endured the worst start ever to their Premier League campaign last term, losing the opening five games without scoring a single goal. Then Palace manager Frank De Boer was sacked and in came Roy Hodgson to rescue the team.
Under Hodgson’s guidance, Palace finished 11th in the league with 44 points. Former Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha turned things around for the Eagles with his inspirational performances during the second half of the campaign. The winger thrived in his new-found attacking role after star striker Christian Benteke failed to deliver on a regular basis.
With the new season on the horizon, Hodgson should look to bolster his squad in the summer. And Liverpool striker Danny Ings is reportedly on Palace’s radar.
The 25-year-old joined the Reds from Burnley in the summer of 2015 but his time at Anfield has been blighted by injuries. Now fully fit, Ings is looking to leave Liverpool this summer in search of regular game time.
Ings has thus far managed to make just 14 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, scoring just 3 goals in the process. Those are not impressive numbers for a striker who shone during his time in Burnley. He made 122 appearances for the Clarets between 2011 and 2015, finding the back of the net 38 times.
Ings is definitely a great finisher and a deadly poacher in front of goal. He is way down the pecking order at Anfield and a move to Crystal Palace could help him reignite his career once again.
Palace cannot solely rely on Zaha to deliver the goods once again next season. The club need to make signings in the summer, and the arrival of Ings will see some pressure taken off from Zaha. Benteke’s future at Selhurst Park is not certain.
The striker had a miserable 2017/18 season, scoring just 3 goals and providing 5 assists in 31 appearances. If Benteke does leave the club, Palace are going to need a new striker to take his place.

And Ings could be the perfect man to replace Benteke. Under Hodgson’s guidance, the 25-year-old could finally get his career back on track which would also prove to be beneficial for Palace.
