According to Daily Mail, Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
Moussa Dembele, 23, spent a goal-laden two years at Parkhead before an acrimonious exit to Lyon in 2018. He enjoyed a solid debut season at Lyon, helping the club achieve a third-place finish in the Ligue 1.
The Frenchman has hit the ground running in the new campaign as he has already netted eight goals in 11 league fixtures.
The 23-year-old has long been of interest to Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer particularly keen on a January swoop for Dembele. However, the report claims that Lyon might want to hold onto Dembele until the summer to increase his value.
And that could bode well for Chelsea, who are amidst a two-window transfer ban.
Chelsea are currently the most in-form team in the Premier League, having won their last five games. Frank Lampard did endure a slow start to his managerial career at Stamford Bridge but he has turned the tables around.
In Lampard’s revolution at Stamford Bridge, Tammy Abraham has impressed the most. Abraham is having a fantastic season leading the attacking line for Chelsea and has repaid Lampard’s faith in him by bagging nine goals so far this season.
The 22-year-old’s emergence has seen Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi enjoy limited game time at the Bridge.
This could lead to the duo’s exit at the end of the season (h/t Daily Mail), leaving the manager with just Abraham in the striking department. That’s why signing Moussa Dembele makes sense for the Blues.
