Why A Midfield Pivot Of Emre Can And This Croatian Would Be Perfect For Liverpool

Share

Liverpool seem to be in the race to sign Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic, the Croatian has been in form for his national side in the European championships but hasn’t been able to click for Real Madrid since his big money move from Inter Milan.

The Premier League side were in the running to sign him last season and now seem set to complete the deal in the coming days as Jurgen Klopp looks to add a bit more steel in the midfield, which was woeful in certain games, especially when the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner played in the middle.

There was one player in particular who did well in most of the games in midfield and that was Emre Can. The German tank was one of the few players who actually gave everything he had on a regular basis and seems set for a bright future at the club.

There are many who believe that if Can had a player who can ping those passes about, yet cover for him when he goes on those marauding runs, Liverpool would actually be tough to break down the middle and Kovacic could be the perfect partner for the German in a double pivot.

Kovacic only made eight starts for Real Madrid last season in the league and would be wanting more playing time but Zinedine Zidane might not see him in the same vein as former manager Rafa Benitez would. Zidane seems to prefer a midfield of Toni Kroos and Luca Modric and to be perfectly honest, it would not be easy to replace either player, even if Kovacic is extremely talented.

Liverpool though do not have that problem as they don’t really have a lot of quality and class in the midfield and with the injury concerns of Jordan Henderson and the aging James Milner, Kovacic could be the right option for the Reds.

He might not be the best when it comes to defending but passing the ball around and holding the ball are a couple of his important traits, something that none of the other Liverpool midfielders possess. Kovacic is also younger than the other Liverpool midfielders apart from Can and him forming a pairing with the German could be the right thing for Liverpool for years to come.

The only issue for Kovacic would be the fact that Liverpool are not in the Champions League or even in Europe while a host of other clubs would be willing to sign the talented Croatian up as soon as possible.

Liverpool and Klopp will have to work hard and otherwise it can be another signing that the German loses out on, such as the case of Mario Gotze.
