Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on signing Scottish wonder kid Jack Hendry. The Dundee defender is understood to have attracted attention from both clubs after putting up a string of exemplary displays over the last few months.

In fact, many have compared his style to that of Manchester City’s John Stones and a move to the Premier League could be on the cards for the youngster.

The 22-year-old has not only impressed English clubs but is also a widely-targeted player in Scotland. He is regarded as one of their most promising young defenders and if were to join either Palace or Newcastle, Hendry could truly reach greater heights. Let’s take a look at his profile.

History

Born in 1995 in Glasgow, Scotland, Hendry was a part of Partick Thistle and featured for their development squad quite often. He made a senior appearance for the club in the 2014-15 season and then signed a professional contract with them in 2015.

The Scot was strong in the pre-season games that year and soon established himself in the first-team. However, later that year in September, Hendry chose to join Wigan Atheltic.

Hendry was sent out on loan to Shrewsbury Town and Milton Keynes Dons wherein he put up decent displays. However, things did not work out well for him at Wigan, following which he joined Dundee in July 2017.

Playing Style

Hendry is an out-and-out ball-playing centre-back. He is adept at holding onto possession and passing from the defence, which does make him an attractive target.

Although physically strong, the youngster is also known for his light feet. He can often bustle through opposition attackers to keep them quiet while maintaining a sense of fluidity in the play.

Hendry is quite tall as well, which helps him in aerial battles. Thus, Hendry does seem like a worthy target to consider. Also, since he is very young, he can be moulded by either Roy Hodgson or Rafa Benitez to improve and develop further.
