What Will Coutinho Bring New To This Liverpool Side?

Share

Coutinho started his footballing career in Vasco da Gama’s youth system and he stayed there till 2010. Then he signed for Inter Milan where he won Supercoppa Italiana and FIFA Club World Cup in his first season but was not able to be a regular starter and was sent out on loan to Espanyol in 2012.

He became a regular starter in the 2012-13 season for Inter but was repeatedly linked with a move to Liverpool and completed his move to Anfield for around £8.5 million in January 2013.

Coutinho Player Analysis

What Position Coutinho will play for Liverpool?

Coutinho’s playing style is some what similar to Luiz Suarez. They both prefer playing through middle.  With Daniel Sturridge pulling all strings in the attack, Brendon Rodgers will have a tough time while picking his starting eleven. But the best guess is Downing will lose his place in wings.

Daniel Sturridge will play through middle while Suarez staying close to him on left with a second striker role. Coutinho will take right wing. Another interesting thing about this attacking trio is that all three can shift to any three attacking positions during the game which will give headaches for opponent defenders in man marking.

What will Coutinho bring to Liverpool?

Like Suarez, he has the willingness to get on the ball and can run directly at any defenders in the league with his quick feet.

Coutinho might not be as tenacious or as aggressive as Suarez,  but he has the creative flair to unlock any defense and versatile enough to play both in midfield and attack.

He will definitely bring good link-up play (Brendon’s style) and also much needed depth to this Liverpool team.

Strengths: Direct dribbles, Creative flair.

Weaknesses: Less Physical.

Career high: Won the Supercoppa Italiana and FIFA Club World Cup in 2010.

Career low: In January 2012, he was told to move on loan to Espanyol.

Style: Creative, tricky, skilful, a flair player who can unlock a  any defence.
