West Brom Opinion: Why the Baggies should go for Moussa Konate?

According to a report from the Sun, West Brom are interested in signing Amiens striker Moussa Konate. (h/t the Birmingham Mail)

The Senegal international, 26, joined Amiens from Swiss side Sion in 2017 and has netted 20 goals over the course of the last two seasons, including seven last season. Konate, who still has two years left on his current contract with Amiens, is valued at around £5m.

With that in mind, West Brom should quickly splash the cash and snap up Konate from Amiens.

The Baggies are eyeing promotion back to the Premier League during the upcoming season under the tutelage of Slaven Bilic, who took over at the club this summer.

The West Brom boss has already strengthened his attack with the signing of Kenneth Zohore and Filip Krovinovic, while defender Semi Ajayi has also joined from Rotherham United.

However, Bilic is still in the market to add bring in more new faces, as he aims to build a strong team worthy of winning promotion from the Championship.

Following the departures of Jay Rodriguez, Dwight Gayle and Salomon Rondon, it’s imperative for West Brom to bring in a couple of forwards more following the arrivals of Zohore and Krovinovic. That’s when the signing of Moussa Konate would make sense.

Konate has solid experience having played in Switzerland, France, Israel, Russia and Italy. In 27 appearances for Amiens, he scored seven goals, which saw him earn a call-up to the Senegal team for the African Cup of Nations; however, they finished runners-up to Algeria in the final in Egypt last week.

The Senegalese is not only a good finisher but is equally decent at creating opportunities for his teammates.

While he might not be the most technically gifted forward, he makes up for it with his work-rate, energy and tireless running. He has a strong and sturdy frame that allows him to hold up the ball in the attacking third of the pitch.

The ex-Sion man is lethal in the box and can score scruffy goals; however, he also tends to be a little wayward in front of goal on occasions.

Verdict

Konate has no prior experience of English football which makes him a gamble for West Brom. But if Bilic’s attacking players can provide him with good service consistently, this gamble could pay off and the Baggies could bag a coup in the Senegal international.
