Watford signing this 6ft 3in Spanish league star would be a solid move in January

Why Juanpe Ramirez would be a solid signing for Watford

Back in May, Inside Futbol (h/t Liverpool Echo) had claimed that Watford and Everton were interested in signing Girona defender Juanpe Ramirez.

Juanpe Ramirez, 28, played a key role in his debut campaign at Girona as the club were promoted to the Spanish top-flight for the first time in their history. He was one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise woeful campaign that saw Girona get relegated from the La Liga.

So far in the Segunda Division, the Spaniard has made 12 appearances. Girona haven’t performed as per their standards and currently lie fifth in the table. With the Catalonia-based club nine points off the league leaders, Watford should test the club’s resolve with a cheeky bid for Juanpe next month.

Watford have appointed Nigel Pearson as they look for a way out of trouble in the Premier League. Pearson has succeeded Quique Sanchez Flores, whose short-lived second spell at Vicarage Road was brought to an end after a sore defeat to Southampton. The experienced English manager has signed a contract until the end of the season.

The Hornets sit 20th in the Premier League with 9 points from 16 matches. They are in big trouble and need a miracle from here on to avoid relegation from the top-flight. It’s a no-brainer for Pearson to spend in January to reinforce his side, which has registered just one win so far this season.

One area the English tactician should prioritise reinforcing is the defence, which has leaked 30 goals. None of the defenders have performed consistently and if we take a look at the options Watford have at the back, it is very limited. Thus, it’s clear the Hornets can do with a quality centre-back and Pearson should make a move for Girona’s Juanpe.

More Watford News:

Standing tall at 6ft 3in, Juanpe could be the man who could solidify the Watford back-line. He certainly possesses the qualities to make a difference. He certainly has the height and the physicality to cope with the hustle and bustle of English football.

Verdict

Watford are in deep trouble at the moment and must start picking up points during the busy Christmas period. They must solidify their backline if they are to stay in the top-flight and for that reason, the Hornets must go all out to sign Juanpe in the winter transfer window.
