Two Signings Which Could Convert This Liverpool Side As Serious Title Contenders

Share

Are Liverpool genuine title contenders this campaign? By the looks of it and the sublime form the Reds are in very few would bet against Liverpool finishing in the Champions League places. The brilliance of Luis Suarez coupled with the darling attacking prowess of Phillipe Coutinho, the solidity of the back four has given the vociferous set of fans something huge to cheer about and hold their breath till next May. The Reds from Merseyside currently lie second in the table, two points behind leaders Arsenal, playing some delightful football and producing moments of sheer magic week in and week out.

Brendan Rodgers, to his credit has built a strong around the Uruguayan, Suarez and despite both Daniel Sturride and inspirational captain Steven Gerrard out for the coming weeks, Liverpool can look forward to the festive season with more enthusiasm and their eagerness to assert their Champions League aspirations. But are the Reds genuine title contenders as of yet? The last time Liverpool got close to winning the Premier League was in the 2008-09 season when, the then Rafa Benitez’s side finished just four points behinds winners and fierce rivals Manchester United.

With the Transfer window imminent in a fortnight, can Brendan Rodgers make some sensible moves in the transfer market and lead Liverpool to their 19th title in the top tier of English Football. We here at Soccersouls have done some scouting which might just bring home the Reds, their long lost glory.

Jorginho:

With Lucas Leiva having lost his form and showing no signs of improvement, if there is one area of Liverpool’s scope for improvement, it has to be the central defensive midfield. This is exactly where Italian side Verona’s central midfielder Jorginho comes to the point. The Brazilian born Italian has immense maturity beyond his age and his positioning is immaculate in the middle of the park. He has that unique ability of breaking down the opponent’s attacks he is more expressive going up front and his ball distribution will immensely benefit the Reds if he at all comes to Merseyside this January.

Moreover going by stats, the Verona midfielder is a brilliant tackler of the ball and is always willing to put his body on the line, a rare quality in midfielders these days. His passing accuracy stands at 85%, a stat that speaks for itself and further he has created 20 chances and scored 7 goals from midfield which is an additional boost for Rodgers to look into. Adam Lallana:

If there are innumerous reasons for Southampton’s  immaculate season so far under Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, Englishman Adam Lallana is one of the prime clauses. The 25-year old has attracted wide interest from the majority of the Premier League clubs, including Liverpool. Even though it’s quite evident that Southampton won’t be selling him for anything below a hefty fee, Lallana brings with himself the dazzling ability on the ball, the dynamism on it and his vision which is exemplary. Liverpool at times, do look stagnant in the final third if Suarez is having a bad day off, and this is where Lallana might just be the solution. But the only question is: Will the Saints budge in the middle of a superb campaign?
