Two Signings That Could Convert This Manchester United Side Into A Title Challenging One

Louis Can Gaal’s Manchester United seem to be hitting their stride, they may not be playing the best football but they are getting the results needed. They beat Arsenal away from home and are now in the Champions League spot, the minimum requirement from this season is to qualify for the Champions league and they look set on their way, especially with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham faltering in the league.

United have invested in the squad this season and it does not look anything like David Moyes’ Manchester United from 12 months ago. Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind have all been signed to provide some more impetus to a side which was fading into the abyss last season.

Danny Welbeck has been sold off to Arsenal but most of the players signed are still to find their feet at United, the resurgence of Fellaini over the past few weeks will be some good news for Manchester United fans. Louis Van Gaal stated that the League title is still possible but with Chelsea going off like a freight train that can’t be stopped, the Dutchman should focus on winning the title next season, with a couple of more additions to the team they can easily win the title next season. Here are two players which can make the difference for Manchester United and make them a title winning squad or at least help them challenge for the title.

Mats Hummels: Defender

I would have stated Mehdi Benatia but he has already moved to Munich, the next best option for United would be Mats Hummels. The German world cup winner, who is currently nursing an injury is one of the best central defenders in the world and has been for the past 3 years. Ever since moving to Dortmund from Bayern Munich, on loan initially, he has grown in stature and playing ability.

He has won a couple of Bundesliga titles under Jurgen Klopp and at just 25 years old, he still has a lot of time to grow and develop. The German is not only calm when having the ball, he can put together good passes, is great in the air, can tackle exceptionally and mark opponents, the complete package.

Ever since the sale of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United have lacked a leader in the middle of defence, the likes of Evans, Jones and Smalling just don’t cut it and bringing in the German for whatever price, would really make their defence decent enough to deal with the top sides.
