2 Manchester United Players Who Should Be Ashamed Of Their Performance In The Loss To Chelsea

Antonio Conte’s man survived a tough game against Manchester United, as a solitary goal from Alvaro Morata was enough for them to take all three points, leaving the Red Devils, red-faced. Jose Mourinho’s ploy of sitting back to frustrate the hosts backfired as his side failed to turn things in the attack, eventually falling flat.

This was their second loss of the season and though they are still firm in the top-4 race, this loss has now opened up an 8-point gap with Manchester City, which will not be easy to reduce.

The Portuguese manager will not be too pleased with his team’s overall performance but a few players were so atrocious, that they deserve special mentions. Here are two such players who should be ashamed of their performance at the Bridge this past weekend:

Marcus Rashford

The English international is one of the most exciting players in the league at the moment but he failed to show any kind of intent against the Blues. Up against the likes of Azpilicueta and Zappacosta, with 4 shots, none on target, 0 key passes, 0 chances created, 0 dribbled completed and just 43 touches of the ball, he was one of the most ineffective players on the pitch at the weekend.

With a passing accuracy of just 68.4% and just one aerial duel won, Rashford was a part of the reason why United failed to dominate the proceedings in the final third, leaving Mourinho embarrassed. Surely, he should be too.

Phil Jones

Another English ace that failed to show any conviction at the Bridge was Phil Jones, Jose Mourinho’s first choice CB this season. Playing as a part of a back-3, Jones was constantly under pressure from the likes of Morata and Hazard, and he was partly at fault, for leaving the Spaniard unmarked for his goal. He was also caught out of position a number of times, something Chelsea genuinely failed to capitalise on.

He made an interception and a block to add to his two clearances but he was just not up to the mark on the night. He gave away two needless fouls and it is no surprise that United looked better after he was subbed off. The new system may have had its effect on the player’s performance but against a big club, on a big occasion, Jones’ performance was nothing short of embarrassing.
