Two Left Wingers Liverpool Must Sign To Complement Sadio Mane

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have developed into a well-oiled attacking unit that has been scoring goals at will. The Reds have scored 68 goals in the league this season – most by any team and were on a juggernaut in the early parts of the season.

The attacking trident of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Philippe Coutinho were on fire and the title looked well within reach for Liverpool at the time. However, they went through a lean period in between, with Mane unavailable due to international duty and Coutinho out injured. This hampered their league campaign.

This is one area where the Reds need to work on over the summer. To that end, we look at two left wingers who Liverpool could sign in the summer window to complement Mane on the opposite flank and allow Klopp to use Philippe Coutinho in a deeper role, to make their attack look even more frightening:

Julian Brandt

Perhaps the most likely star to come in and bolster Liverpool’s attacking options in the summer is Julian Brandt. One of Germany’s most gifted prospects in recent times, the 20-year old has been linked heavily with a move to Anfield in the summer.

Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of the Bayer Leverkusen man, and he reportedly has him pinned down as a key target before next season. The 20-year old is very versatile across the front line, and his quick feet, decision-making and wiry six-foot frame make him a tricky player to deal with. Brandt has scored 4 times for Leverkusen this season and has assisted 6 goals as well.

Signing a bright and young player like Brandt in the summer could prove to be the ideal way for Liverpool as he would allow Coutinho to play more centrally while also acting as an able backup for Mane if need be.

Thomas Lemar

If Liverpool want to reach the next level, they have to start making signings of real intent. Few youngsters are as exciting as Monaco’s Thomas Lemar in the market right now, and the Reds should act bold and consider making an approach for him.

The 21-year old French starlet has been brilliant for the Principality-based outfit this season and has netted an impressive 12 goals and has further set up 9 strikes. Lemar, at his age, is being touted as a future superstar of the game, and his performances this season highlight how promising he is.

He may not come at a cheap price and Monaco might refuse to sell him. But Liverpool should go for it if they are to become serious title contenders. Lemar will be the perfect man to help them achieve that.
