Transfer Oinion: Can Liverpool Challenge Next Season With The Same Squad?

Share

Liverpool have had a pretty inconsistent season under Jurgen Klopp’s reign so far, well the German boss did do a decent job and reached a couple of finals, but the aim would have been to reach the top four and Liverpool failed to do that. The final did show that Liverpool are not quite the finished product as of yet.

The German did set up a few great games with his Gegenpressing playing style. Liverpool were excellent against Manchester City, Southampton (in the league cup) and Chelsea but those performances were far in between and didn’t take place enough times, especially when the Reds needed it the most.

While Klopp would have his own plans and will expect the side to do much better next season when he gets a proper preseason with the lads, he should also be thinking about the transfers for the club. For all the talk about having a young squad, this team is not enough to do well for a long period of time. In the one off games, they might get the result but there are many players who just cannot seem to cut in on a regular basis.

Alberto Moreno, Simon Mignolet, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and even the returning players such as Mario Balotelli and Lazar Markovic aren’t good enough for the side to try out for a top four spot, let along for a Premier League title.

Klopp certainly has seen a growth in the ability of players such as James Milner, Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and even Divock Origi look like world beaters, but they do not have enough quality squad players to take them into the next level.

One smart thing that Jurgen Klopp did was to keep the same team even after the winter transfer window and he didn’t really buy anyone for next season. Two signings of Marko Grujic and Joel Matip will be good in the long run but even they cannot push Liverpool to the top next season.

Without investment, Liverpool will struggle to achieve a top four place. The likes of West Ham and Southampton will bring in more players and again challenge for a top four spot next season as well and let us not forget about he likes of Manchester City and Chelsea bringing in new managers who would be bringing in their own players next season.

The competition in the Premier League keeps on getting tougher and without new faces in a team, it makes challenging for a top four spot extremely difficult. Liverpool does have the right man for the job and now the question is if they can find the right players for the charge.
