Transfer News: Celtic eyeing a move for Swansea manager Graham Potter

Share

Celtic FC News: Celtic are considering Swansea manager Graham Potter as a replacement for Neil Lennon, claims The Sun.

The former Hibernian manager was appointed as the makeshift manager for the Celts after the departure of Brendan Rodgers, midway through the season.

Despite Lennon’s successful run since taking charge, several managers, including Rafa Benitez and Roberto Martinez, have been linked with the Glasgow club for the role of permanent manager.

Now, the Swans gaffer, Potter, has emerged as the latest member on the list.

Stats

Potter, 43, joined the Welsh club last year, after agreeing upon a three-year deal.

The English manager previously had a stint in Sweden with Ostersund for eight years.

Holding a win percentage of around 51, Potter has led the Swedish club to Division 1 and Division 2 titles and won the Svenska Cupen in 2017.

He has also won the Swedish manager award for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017.

However, the former Reading player is having a decent run in the Championship this season, as the Swans are currently 13th in the table.

Potter cites Belgium head coach Martinez as his childhood influence, alongside Pep Guardiola.

He is known for executing all kind of formations in a single game and for his innovative techniques.

Is Potter sought by the Celts with European glory as the objective?

Despite dominating Scottish football for years, the Celts hold a poor record in European Competitions.

With this year’s failure against Sevilla in the Europa League round of 32, the Bhoys haven’t been able to get past the knock-out stages for more than a decade.

And they are citing Potter as the manager who could end their long-running hoodoo at continental cups.

However, Potter’s inexperience in the European games remains a big conundrum for the Hoops.

Odds are high for Neil Lennon

Lennon has led his side to 6 wins in 8 games without a single loss.

Moreover, the victory in the Old Firm Derby followed by yesterday’s win against Aberdeen in the Semi-finals have made Lennon a frontrunner for the full-time manager job.
