Transfer Latest – Ronaldo Slapped At United’s Face As Contract Talks End In A Dispute

Share

Well, this has to come up sometime, isn’t? Cristiano Ronaldo has again appeared in the headlines. The phenomenal forward’s contract renewal with Spanish giants Real Madrid is currently going on a rough patch due to the player’s huge wage demands. Rumours are that CR7 wants to take home a whopping £330,000 a week (after tax).

In such a scenario, as always Manchester United’s name have been thrown into the equation. The Portuguese was once again linked with a United return at the start of the window over the same issue, although things went down subtly. But, the current situation that has arisen between Ronaldo and Real Madrid can possibly act as a catalyst for United officials to make a move for the player. .

According to Madrid’s former president Roman Calderon, who was in charge of the club from 2006-09, the huge wage demand will be promptly unacceptable for the club.

He told The Sun: “I think the president has put all he has on the table (for Bale) just in case he cannot get the renewal of Cristiano,” Calderon said. “He is afraid that, at some moment, Cristiano will go and that would be very bad news for Real Madrid.”

“Now I understand he is asking for €20 million net every season,” said Calderon of Ronaldo.  “That is going to be difficult for Real Madrid to accept because it is around €40 million every year for the club to pay and that is the situation now.”

So, it will surely be United’s gain if the renewal gets blocked and the Red Devils can certainly bargain for the player. Ronaldo has always shown his affinity for a return to the English club from where he came into limelight. He spent six long seasons for the Red Devils before moving to Real Madrid in 2009. He won the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2008 along with dozens of other honors. However, the big question is whether Ronaldo would take a pay cut as United are unlikely to match his wage demands.

In other news, Manchester United have asked the statutory body of Trafford to follow the review process of the Red Devils’ fortress. It came after the club officials nominated Old Trafford as an Asset of Community Value. The fans are surely delighted with the news as it means the stadium can’t be used for any purpose other than its present use.

It has been seen as a win for Manchester United Supporters’ Trust. United released a statement tonight which reads:

”The club has received the decision by Trafford Council. ‘Old Trafford is, of course, a special place; it is the heart and soul of the club.

”The club obviously sees it the same way, which is why over the last eight years it has demonstrated its commitment to Old Trafford by spending around £90million upgrading its facilities and it will continue that investment in the future.

”We do have concerns that the legislation is not being applied correctly which could set a precedent throughout the country.

”Therefore, we have asked the council to follow the statutory review process to ensure the legislation is being applied as intended and we shall continue to keep open communication with the council.”
