Transfer Latest – Manchester United Target Casillas To Replace Barcelona Bound De Gea?

casillas left the field injuried

Iker Casillas is certainly peeved at the Real Madrid management at the moment and quite rightly so. It was understandable that when Jose Mourinho decided to drop Casillas from the first team. The matters between them were much beyond football and more to a personal level. This is the reason why Casillas must have been under the impression that Ancelotti would put him to the main team when he takes charge. But things did not go that way and Casillas still found himself sitting on the bench with Diego Lopez in the starting line up at Real’s first game against Real Betis. That has certainly convinced him that the time has arrived to make a new club his home.

But then what Real’s loss may just be United’s gain. If reports are to be believed, David De Gea has been targeted by Barcelona to replace Victor Valdes, who has expressed his desire to move out the club next season. Under this scenario, United may find themselves bidding for the Spanish veteran from Real to be their first choice.

But United would certainly face competition to sign the player from Arsenal and Chelsea. Arsenal are looking for a keeper for a long time and they are expected throw their weight behind this deal. But Casillas would prefer a move to Old Trafford, reports the same source and currently United are in a pole position to sign this player.

The news have started to spread following reports from El Mundo Deportivo who claimed that if a deal to send Casillas to United can be agreed Barcelona will move for De Gea. It now remains to be seen whether Real are willing to consider letting Casillas go and whether a deal can be struck before the closure of the transfer window. Even if Casillas was to make the move to United before September 2, it is unclear whether Barcelona would be willing to shell out to bring De Gea to Catalonia with Valdes still on their books – reports Express.

In other news, United are all set to offer a five year contract deal to youngster Adnan Januzaj who has impressed one and all this season with his performance in the pre season. He has played brilliantly all throughout United’s tour of Asia before the start of the season and has earned himself the contract.

He is set to feature in Moyes’ first team sooner than later and is considered as one of the brightest prospects to have come out of the United academy in recent years. The Belgian received his first medal when United defeated Wigan to win the Community Shield few days ago.
