Tottenham were linked with a move for Matthias Ginter in the summer, according to Bild (h/t Daily Star).
The Borussia Monchengladbach defender was in great form for the Bundesliga giants and has tons of experience to boot.
The former Borussia Dortmund defender won the World Cup with Germany and Monchengladbach wanted €60m in the summer to let go of their star (h/t Daily Star).
Spurs were busy landing some of their other targets in the recent transfer window, however, they have to make a move for Ginter in January.
Ginter can play as a right-back or a defensive midfielder but his best position is in the heart of the defence.
The 25-year-old has the potential to improve further and €60m for a quality defender isn’t that big a price to pay.
Spurs have a couple of problems regarding their centre-backs as Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are free agents at the end of this season.
Ginter would do a decent job in replacing either one of them and Spurs have Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth who can play as centre-backs.
The 25-year-old German can also provide cover to several other positions and could be used well by Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham should not wait till next season in making a move for Ginter and try to sign him in January.
Bringing the German over in the winter window would give him time to adjust to the new league and team.
Spurs would also be able to keep Alderweireld and Vertonghen and slowly bed Ginter into the starting XI.
There is no guarantee that the Belgian pair will sign new contracts and remain at Spurs and Tottenham need to find a quality replacement for the ageing pair.
Lucas Moura is an example of a player joining in January but Spurs only got to see the best of him in the next season.
Ginter should also follow the same route and Tottenham will find it difficult to land another centre-back with as much talent and experience as Ginter.
