Top three goals from Premier League week 1: Liverpool fans will enjoy this

The good old Premier League is back and its back with a bang. Shock results, great individual performances, a few rather poor ones and a glut of goals, the opening week of the Premier League saw the most goals scored in the last seven years of opening matches and we certainly enjoyed a few of them.

A good goal might be something worth watching once, a great goal is worth watching thousands of times and we have gone through all the goals of the weekend and have listed the top three, in no particular order.

Yaya Toure vs. West Bromwich Albion

Yaya Toure showed everyone just how brilliant he is for Manchester City. He might have been a little lucky to score his first goal but there was no doubt about the quality of the finish for the second one. The ball was laid off to him and the big Ivorian effortlessly curled the ball into the top corner of the net. The placement might have been great but the power generated with little back-lift is something to marvel at.

Philippe Coutinho vs. Stoke City

Stoke City might be wondering what hit them, Liverpool fans though don’t really care, the club did get the victory over the team that defeated them 6-1 last season but left it extremely late. Philippe Coutinho was the star player for Liverpool in attack last season and he continued that role for the Reds with a magnificent strike at the Britannia. The goal came late on in the game with just a few minutes remaining, Coutinho spun around his defender, shifted the ball to his right foot, drove forward and smashed in a great goal, Butland could have done better but the ferocity of the shot took him by surprise.

Ross Barkley vs. Watford

One of the brightest sparks in the Premier League, Ross Barkley was in fine form against an upbeat Watford side in the first game of the season. The game will be remembered for this thunderbolt from Ross, it really was a ‘blink and you will miss it’ moment as the English midfield hammered the ball in from outside the box. The Watford goalkeeper would have ended into the back of the net had the ball hit him, the shot was that powerful.
