Top 5 Youngest Manchester United Goal-Scorers: Find Out Who Marked Their Names Before Rashford

Share

You can’t have a successful football team if you don’t have youngsters that can take your club to another level for many years to come and big clubs know that, so their scouts work around the clock in order to find and develop young talent.

So, nowadays the most important thing for a team (besides winning, obviously) is to form and develop a great academy in order to find the next world class player, and sometimes managers tend to rush kids into action and that thing doesn’t always end as planned.

However, it also works out at times, as the young lads help their teams to get a crucial victory, and everybody starts to wonder where did this teenager came from and if he’s talented enough to sustain that scoring ability for the long run.

So, today we’ll take a look at the 5 youngest goal scorers in Manchester United’s history:

5. James Wilson: 18 years, 5 months and 5 days

Wilson seemed like one of the most interesting talents in Manchester United’s academy when he made his debut, and his first score was against Hull City on May 6th, 2014.

The now 21-year-old is still developing his game, as he’s shown for the England u 19 team as well, but his loan spell at Derby has been cut short due the injury he sustained recently.

4. Rafael: 18 years, 3 months and 30 days

The Brazilian fullback scored his first goal as a Red Devil against Arsenal on November 8th, 2008 and he seemed like he was set to be one of the best players for years to come since his days at Fluminense.

However, some inconsistency and lack of development under the new regime of Louis van Gaal prevented him to actually becoming a great player, and he’s currently playing it France for Olympique Lyon.

3. Marcus Rashford: 18 years, 3 months and 25 days

Rashford is currently one of the most important players in Jose Mourinho’s squad, and he seems destined to inherit that starting striker job whenever Zlatan Ibrahimovic finally leaves the club, being a terrific goal scorer in key moments

Marcus led his team to victory on his debut against Midtjylland for the Europa League, scoring a deuce and helping the Red Devils advance to the next round of the competition.

2. Danny Welbeck: 17 years, 11 months and 20 days

His first score for Manchester United came against Stoke City on November 15th, 2008, but Welbeck, despite being a pretty decent talent, never found a consistent playing time under the Dutch manager Louis van Gaal and was one of those many players who left the Theatre of Dreams during his era.

Now, he’s struggling to remain healthy while playing for Arsenal, and he’s still waiting to make his season debut due to injury.

1. Federico Macheda: 17 years, 7 months and 15 days

Another great flop, Macheda; scored his first goal as a red devil against Aston Villa on April 5th, 2009, sealing an epic comeback after Cristiano Ronaldo levelled the score against Aston Villa.

However, that was pretty much of Macheda’s highlight as a Manchester United player, and he’s currently struggling in an Italian second tier team.
