Top 5 game-changing signings made by Tottenham in the last decade including 56-goal superstar

Tottenham Hotspur are playing an attractive brand of football under current boss Mauricio Pochettino. Although Spurs are yet to win a trophy under the Argentine, the north Londoners have done well to compete with the “big boys.”

Spurs are known for signing youngsters with potential and making them close to “world-beaters.” Their revolution from being an “outsider” to one of the “challengers” has consisted of many good players.

Here are five game-changing signings completed by Spurs in the past decade:

Luka Modric

Modric, who is currently a world-class midfielder, played for Spurs between 2008 to 2012 after arriving from Dinamo Zagreb.

Modric performed consistently for Tottenham, scoring 17 goals and assisting 27 times in 160 games for the club. The Croatian is probably one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the modern generation. He left for Real Madrid in 2012 and has managed to weave his magic in Spain as well.

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen has gone on to become a vital player for Spurs since joining from Ajax in 2013. He has the ability to change the complexion of a game single-handedly.

He has thus far scored 56 goals and provided 69 assists in 225 appearances for the club over five seasons. The 26-year-old, who is a technically gifted player, is versatile as well as he can play as a No.10 or as a wide midfielder.

Jan Vertonghen

Vertonghen is a versatile defender, who can play as a left-back, left wing-back or predominantly as a centre-back. He is very comfortable on the ball and is also very robust and physical.

The Belgian has a habit of scoring crucial goals from set-piece situations. He is a very hard tackler and is also pretty good in the air. Vertonghen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012.

Harry Kane

Kane began playing regular first team football for Tottenham from the 2014/15 season and he has improved in leaps and bounds. He is now considered one of the top strikers in the game, having scored 140 goals in 213 games for the north London outfit.

He joined Tottenham’s academy in 2004, having once been a part of Arsenal’s youth set-up. Kane is arguably Tottenham’s best player currently. The good news for Spurs fans is that he just signed a new contract with the club.

Son Heung-min

The effervescent South Korean has been a revelation for Spurs since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. He possesses pace, direct running ability and scoring touch to impact football games in a trice. He is a versatile player, who can play out wide on the wings or as a false striker.

He scored 18 goals and set up 11 more in 53 games last season, while in total he has turned out 140 times for the club, netting 47 times and providing 26 assists.
