Power of Youth! – Top 3 Rising Talents In The Championship

The English Championship is a veritable breeding ground for eventual top-flight talent and this season has proven this division to be a springboard for Premier League and international stars of the next couple of years.

In terms of younger players who are on the rise and could play top flight football, we could name at least ten here. But, despite mention, I’d love to give some lesser-known players. This is about the very best up-and-coming players from England’s second tier and so it’s hard to beat these three:

Sean Morrison (Cardiff City)

Now, I name this guy not because he’s a 20-year-old unknown but precisely because he’s an older player who deserves a ton of credit for continuing to improve his game in this division.

We could say Morrison has shown up well because he’s part of a very well organised team. However, a look at his overall ratings over the years reveals a remarkable pattern; 7.26, 7.26, 7.28, 7.43 and now 7.51. This is a pattern of continuous improvement and although he was there briefly with Reading, Morrison would deserve a crack at the Premier League next season.

James Maddison (Norwich City)

The attacking midfield player has been excellent all season and it’s not all about stats either as even visually he has looked incredibly impressive and every inch a Premier League player.

The 21-year-old ex-Coventry man has contributed to a goal every 177 minutes in the league, this from a player playing 25 times in an attacking midfield position, 4 times in a slightly deeper role and twice coming on from the bench.

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

The exciting young winger has been truly outstanding when allowed to play in his favoured position.

Having played 19 games at left-back with an average rating of 6.82 out of 10, Sessegnon has more recently been allowed to play further forward and then his stats change dramatically.

14 games in advanced positions have led to him getting 11 goals and 2 assists along with an average rating of 7.36 in the Championship and this alone marks him out as a player capable of the Premier League. I’m not certain where he’ll end up, though I do know he’d fit right in at Liverpool.

Let’s not forget that Sessegnon is only 17 years old and so when we talk about rising talents, nobody fits the bill better than him.
