Top 10 Players This Season (PL-Part 1): Featuring Arsenal And Leicester Stars

Share

The Premier League has been exciting and unpredictable especially for the race at the top of the table. Leicester City have been the surprise package this season, but the efforts of Crystal Palace and Watford cannot be overlooked.

While these teams are punching above their weight, there are a few that haven’t lived up to expectations. Manchester United might be in the top four, but they aren’t playing great football while Chelsea have had a horrendous season thus far.

We look at the best performers from the Premier League this season. This is part one of our feature which features the 5 of the best performers in the league with a little help from Squawka.com

  1. Mesut Ozil

The king of the assists, Ozil has been on fire this season and has certainly increased his stock value after a few rather tame performances last season. The German has 13 assists to his name this season and that only from 15 games. He also has 52 key passes in these 15 games and a pass accuracy of 88%, one of the highest in the Arsenal team.

Ozil also has done his bit in the scoring department, chipping in with important goals when needed. He might have only two in the Premier League, but his game turning assists do much more than that. Ozil has been excellent this season so far and Arsenal fans will be hoping he continues his ways till the end of the season.

2. Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley

This pretty much could be the season when Ross Barkley breaks from the mould of almost there to a superstar. Everton might not be in the top four, but Barkley is playing like a superstar and has been just one reason why he is being considered as a starter for England.

The midfielder has six goals to his name this season and has notched up five assists as well. His passing and penetrative runs have been just one facet which has been excellent this season and with a pass accuracy of 88% so far, Barkley is set up to do a lot more than just help Everton win a few games this season.

3. Riyad Mahrez

The Algerian has been one of Leicester’s best players this season and certainly one of the best in the league. Jamie Vardy might have broken a record, but Mahrez also has 10 league goals to his name. It isn’t just scoring which has been Mahrez’s greatest stat.

Riyad has also done his best-attacking defenders and also has six assists to his name. Vardy might be getting all the plaudits, but Mahrez deserves a lot of credit as well.

4. Laurent Koscielny

The Arsenal defender is probably one of the best out there, Koscielny has been a regular for the back line of Arsenal over the years and after a relatively slow start to his career his stats and performances are doing the talking now.

The French defender has 79 clearances this season and 12 blocked shots to his name and also has 52 interceptions to his name and is one of the main reasons why Arsenal are at the top of the table and Koscielny could well lead them to a Premier League title.

5. Alexis Sanchez

Sanchez might not be ruling the assists column like his fellow Arsenal teammate Ozil, but he has continued where he left off last season. The Chilean has just one assist in the league but has 23 key passes this season and has had a pass accuracy of 80% thus far in the league.

Sanchez might not be scoring goals similar to his first season for Arsenal, but he does have six goals to his name this season in the Premier League. With the bulk of the scoring done by Giroud thus far, you wouldn’t bet against him from getting on a goal scoring purple patch come the end of the season.
