Three Unlikely Transfer Targets For Arsenal To Look Into This Summer

While other team fans see thier club signing players, Arsenal fans debate about the imaginary XI that will never arrive at the Emirates. By now you might have heard about all the £70m transfer kitty plus the Puma deals and the stories that Wenger and Gazidis usually come out say that they are going to spend big and compete for trophies this season, but do you see them buying any of the big names that have been linked? Well its highly debatable at this juncture.

Nevertheless this summer looks bright than the recent years as Wenger does not have to think about buying replacements and concentrate on bringing in players who would be an improvement to the squad. With the usual suspects such as Stefan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain and a whole lot of French kids from various league have been linked with a summer move to the Emirates this year, I have taken a look at some unlikely transfer targets Arsenal should try to pursue.

Mats Hummels

Yes you have heard! Mats Hummels. While Per Mertesacker and Koscielny have been excellent this season, Arsenal should try and bring in the Dortmund defender who has been exceptional over the course of this season. Hummels could add the much needed depth that in the back line that the Gunners so desperately need and try to ditch their captain Vermaelen who has been tracked by Barcelona for some reason. Hummels has been a star player for his club and one of the important factors behind Borussia Dortmund’s stunning success in Europe. His statistics suggest that he has amassed an astonishing 100 per cent headed duels and clearances. His pass completion rate has also been over 88 per cent, making him one of the most competent defenders at this moment.

How likely is the transfer? 25% as the player has expressed his desire to stay at Dortmund and with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid tracking him, Arsenal’s chances are very slim.

Kevin Strootman

It would be saying a bit too much if we suggest that this Dutchman can replace the Dutchman that left for Manchester United last summer, Rovin Van Persie, but still Strootman can be a very important addition to the strike force which will undoubtedly be strengthened when he joins the likes of Cazorla and Wilshere. The PSV man has expressed his desire to listen to offers and Wenger has to shed £12m for him. He has gathered six goals and 10 assists this season and can work wonders as a second striker.

However, Manchester United are said to lead the race for the Dutchman. How likely is the transfer? 30%

Maxime Gonalons

This season Wenger has had persisting problems with a holding midfielder and in Gonalons he may just find the solution.  The Lyon captain has been breathtaking for his side this season, a reason why many clubs have been interested in the midfielder, most notably the big spending Monaco. According to The Mirror, Arsenal have sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old on several occasions this season and may be interested in meeting his £15 million asking price.

How likely is the transfer? 55% There has not been any strong connections plus the only competition Arsenal face are from Monaco.
