Three Potential Destinations For This Liverpool Outcast To Choose From Including West Brom

Share

Liverpool’s current longest serving player, Lucas Leiva is reportedly set to leave Anfield in the January transfer window amidst interest from several clubs. The Brazilian, who has been with the Reds for as long as ten years now, has struggled for game time this season under manager Jurgen Klopp and hence is willing to leave in search of regular playing time.

The 30-year old has featured 15 times for Liverpool this term across all competitions, out of which 7 appearances have been from the bench. Klopp has mainly used Lucas in an unfamiliar central defender role this term in the absence of Joel Matip where he hasn’t looked very comfortable. With the Brazilian’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2018, he has admitted that he needs to playing on a more regular basis and hence is looking for a move away from Anfield, even if it is on a loan deal.

With the January window set to close in less than two weeks, we give you three potential destinations that Lucas could end up moving to, before the window slams shut:

Atletico Mineiro

The Brazilian side is all out chasing Lucas and want to take him back to his country this January and have already reportedly submitted an offer for the 30-year old.

While it may not be the best of the destinations for Lucas in terms of the stature of the club, a return to his country will always be special and he could become a pivotal member of the BeloHorizonte-basedd club, playing alongside the likes of Robinho, Luan and Lucas Pratto.

West Bromwich Albion

It has been reported that Tony Pulis has been chasing a defensive midfielder in the January window and also saw a bid rejected for former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who eventually ended up joining Everton.

Lucas could prove to be a prudent signature for the Baggies, having had almost 10 years of experience in the Premier League. His presence in the midfield could bolster West Brom, considering the fact that his abilities suit perfectly to the way that Pulis sets his side out to play. An astute passer of the ball and a tenacious tackler, Lucas could fit right in for West Brom.

Inter Milan

The Nerazzurri have expressed great interest in taking the Brazilian to the Giuseppe Meazza this January and it could prove to be an enticing opportunity for Lucas.

Inter are currently in the 6th position in the Serie A standings and after an extremely poor start to the season, that saw manager Frank De Boer get the sack. However, they have put a decent run of results together since December, having won seven games in a row in all competitions.

Under Stefano Pioli, they have developed into a strong unit and Lucas could add a steeliness to their midfield and his experience could prove to be a key addition.
