Three Players Who Are Likely To Leave Liverpool This Coming Summer

Share

Liverpool have invested huge amount of money this summer and brought in a host of players. But that should not imply as Liverpool have made their overall squad stronger. There is a strong opinion that Liverpool have failed to replace a world class Luis Suarez properly and have bought way too many mediocre players with that money. This is primarily the reason why they have struggled at the beginning of this season and failed to keep up their momentum from last season. Even yesterday they struggled to beat Swansea in their Capital One Cup match comprehensively and could only get the better out of them with a late goal from their centre back, Dejan Lovren.

It can be said with surety that if Liverpool are to replicate their success story from last season, they have to bring in a few world class players to their squad. But that would also mean that they have to get rid of a few of their current squad members first who add very little value to the team. We can expect a host of players to leave the club in the summer and  here we give the names of three such men who should not be Liverpool players after the summer.

Kolo Toure:

The veteran centre back was signed on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester City ended. But the Ivory Coast international has added very little value to the squad and been extremely error prone. He is now a pale shadow of his former self, the strong and accurate player that he was at Arsenal and it is now the twilight of his long career. Many can argue that his mistake has potentially cost Liverpool the title last season, a fact that would hurt the club for a long time to come. Toure’s contract is due at the end of the season and there is no possibility that it would be extended beyond this season.

Lucas Leiva:

The Brazilian has been a pillar for the Reds at the centre of the midfield. Over the years he has served the club with great zeal and grit. It has been shown statistically that Liverpool have won a greater percentage of their matches when Lucas has taken the field for them. But since the last couple of seasons his performance has deteriorated and he has become too injury prone. Liverpool have also signed players like Emre Can for the same position and he is expected to play a decisive role for the club in years to come. Lucas’ former boss Rafa Benitez wants him at Napoli and this would be the ideal time for him to make a shift to the less competitive league. We can expect Lucas to make that switch before next season.

Glen Johnson:

The English right back has been one of the most inconsistent performers of the club over the years and the supporters of the club are not ready to give him another chance. Manager Brendan Rodgers knows this fact and thus he brought in a replacement in the form of Javier Manquillo on loan from Atletico Madrid with an option to sign him on a permanent basis. We were surprised when Liverpool did not take the initiative to sell him at the start of this season, but it would be a blunder of he kept in the club beyond the next season. Johnson should be on his way of the club before the start of the next season and Liverpool should be looking to make the slightest of profits from him.
