Three Ins And Outs That May Happen At Tottenham In January

Share

Tottenham Hotspurs have been in fine form during the festive period, putting in scintillating displays one after the other which has seen them notch up five consecutive wins. The biggest statement was made when Pochettino’s men comprehensively defeated Premier League table toppers Chelsea by 2-0 at the White Hart Lane, bringing an end to the Blues’ 13-match unbeaten run. The win saw them rise them to the third spot in the League table, ahead of bitter rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.

Having established themselves as one of the contenders for the title, Spurs will definitely look to strengthen in key areas, now that the January transfer window is open. There may also be some exits from the Lane for players who have struggled to get game time this term.

Here we take a look at three pieces of business that may happen at the White Hart Lane, before the winter transfer window shuts:

In – Bruma

Reports have emerged that Galatasaray winger Bruma is wanted by Tottenham and the North Londoners have already submitted a £17 million bid to sign him and it has also been reported that the 22-year old has even asked the Turkish giants to let him move to the White Hart Lane.

Bruma has performed admirably this season in the Turkish Super Lig, having scored five goals and set up five more and his performances appear to have caught the eye of Pochettino. The Portuguese wide man, known for his blistering pace, is also an excellent dribbler of the ball and possesses a keen eye for a pass.

With Tottenham looking to add more width to their attack, Bruma could be a shrewd signing. The 22-year old has only 18 months left on his current deal with Galatasaray and a move to the Premier League certainly seem to be on the cards.

Out – Tom Carroll

The 24-year old, after having retained by Pochettino in the summer instead of being sent out on loan, has struggled to make it into the first-team. His involvement has been limited only to two appearances in the EFL League Cup.

Having signed a new three-year deal in September, Carroll’s progress has somewhat stalled at Tottenham and with another youngster Harry Winks ahead in the pecking order, a loan move for the out of favour Carroll could do a world of good.

Swansea had registered an interest in the midfielder in December, after having signed Carroll in the 2014-15 season on loan. But it remains to be seen if they pursue with the interest given the managerial change at the Welsh outfit. The 24-year old was also a target for Championship side Derby County in the summer and Tottenham should look to send the midfielder out on a temporary deal if an offer arrives.

In – Wilfried Zaha

The former Manchester United winger had been the subject of a rejected bid from Spurs in the summer. But, despite having faced rejection earlier, the North Londoners are set to make a move for Zaha again in January.

Zaha has been in good form for Crystal Palace this term and has been their only bright spot in a season that has been disappointing. The 24-year old has scored 4 times – that includes a sensational scissors kick strike against Swansea City on Tuesday – and also has set up 6 goals for his teammates this term for the Eagles in 19 league appearances.

Tottenham have lacked an out and out winger in their squad with new signings Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko struggling to adapt. In Zaha, Pochettino will have a pacey attacker who excels in getting past his man and will strengthen Spurs in wide areas as they go about their title chase.
